Sub-bass energy is popular in dance music, where the low frequencies involve energy from the kick drum (bass drum), the bass guitar and electronic synthesizers and drum machines. Particular genres such as house music, drum and bass and dubstep often feature a bassline that consists mainly of sub-bass frequencies.
Downtempo (or downbeat) [4] is a broad label for electronic music that features an atmospheric sound and slower beats than would typically be found in dance music. [5] Closely related to ambient music but with greater emphasis on rhythm, [6] the style may be played in chillout clubs or as "warm-up or cool-down" music during a DJ set. [5]
Drum and bass is often associated with a more underground or experimental sound compared to some other sub-genres of EMD. Overall, the main difference between EMD and drum and bass is that EMD is a broad term that encompasses a wide range of electronic music genres, while drum and bass is a specific sub-genre of EMD that has its own distinct “Steppers” was also a slang term in jungle/drum’ n’ bass music that was part of the same ancestry. “Step” in this context means something like “dance move” or even “rhythm”. So “dubstep” means something like “the latest step (ie. rhythm) which is kind of dub-like (ie. slow, minimal, heavy bass)”.
